Schoolchild’s World War One battlefield journey to find Great Grandad

We were contacted earlier this week by a lady called Jo Dawkins, the mother of Ryan Dawkins, a student who recently travelled with Anglia to the battlefields. Jo, very kindly, wished to express her gratitude to Anglia and to our “amazing tour guides” for allowing her son the opportunity to visit the grave of his Great Grandad (Lance Corporal Reginald John Boyes: Aged 29). She also wrote a Facebook post which ended up seeing a huge number of likes and shares and subsequently resulted in interest from local newspapers which is an incredible achievement!

For us, arranging a pilgrimage for students to see a late relative is something we do most days without even thinking. It is part of the DNA of an Anglia battlefield tour. So to see the sheer joy that it has brought to Jo and Ryan and to the rest of the general public means a great deal to us. We’d like to thank Jo and Ryan and also Tring School for allowing this rather personal and special moment to be shared.
