Borden Grammar School’s Guided Study Trip to Ypres & The Somme

Borden Grammar School in Sittingbourne Kent have been taking guided history tours to the WW1 Battlefields and Berlin with Anglia for over 10 years. This June they took their Year 9 students on a 2-day, fully guided battlefield study trip to Ypres and The Somme. Their aims for the tour were to develop the boys’ understanding of this topic, which they had studied earlier in the year and to give them an opportunity to reflect upon the consequences of war.

Take a look at their Tour Blog to discover what they covered on the trip and what the students learnt from it.

“ I’ve had the good fortune to work with the staff and boys of Borden for more than 10 years and whilst the itinerary changes just a little each year as we take the school to new locations, the one constant feature throughout has been the excellent level of engagement and enthusiasm shown by the boys.  More than 30 Old Boys of Borden Grammar School are known to have fallen in the Great War so we make it a priority to include at least one pilgrimage in each tour. These visits really do help establish a tangible link between the year 9 boys of 2017 and those who sat in many of the same classrooms a hundred years earlier. “
